HANDKRIT
From hand to ear.
From ear to voice.
From voice to page.
From page to hand.
HANDKRIT is the editoriality of my artistic practice.
Its name combines hand and critique, not as opposition but as proximity. Its name combines hand and critique, not as opposition but as proximity. The hand is understood as a site where attention becomes material. Critique does not begin from distance but through sustained attention.
Editoriality begins there. Rather than publishing completed works, HANDKRIT extends ongoing artistic constellations, liquid inquiries and research ecologies into altered material lives. Installations may become artist books, micro-essays, posters, postcards or editions; publications may return to spatial, performative or collaborative situations. None of these forms documents another. They are different material lives of the same work.
Editoriality is therefore not understood as a way of creating encaunters: between you and me and it, and another you and another me, images and language, intimacy and publicness, artistic gestures and their afterlives. Every cocern or research inquieres its own editorial way and its own constellation of formats, collaborators and modes of circulations.
What moves from hand to hand carries a kind of knowledge no system can automate.
For HANDKRIT, a publication is not simply an object; it is a companion, and a medium through which artistic work continues—in another place, another language, another body, another imagination, another living system.
An artwork does not have one form. It has many material lives.

MISREADING THE WORLD World history in 36 slices, 2021 A multi-volume world history compendium, originally issued as a boxed set, has been subjected to a simple yet irreversible intervention: each volume is cut into three equal parts. The resulting 36 slices remain materially intact as carriers of text, image, and chronology, while the possibility of linear reading is fundamentally suspended. What once appeared as a singular and ordered historical account can no longer be accessed through stable progression. Through this minimal physical fracture, the sovereign claim of world history as a coherent and authoritative totality is quietly unsettled, loosening its grip on sequence, continuity, and historical legibility. Rather than erasing the material, the intervention opens the work toward partial access, discontinuous relation, and other artistic imaginaries of historical possibility. Contained within the original box of the historical edition, the work preserves the appearance of completeness while introducing a structural disturbance at its core. A small act of division becomes a gesture of care: not destruction, but the release of history from the fantasy of singular order. What Comes After The Edge Of Knowledge History and life magazine Monthly magazine edited by Gaceta Ilustrada, S.A Barcelona-Madrid 148 pages approx. each 20 units of different years between 1972 and 1975. (A detailed list of the number of journals that compose it is available) --- This particular volume resulted as part of an experimental research project on Situated Knowledge, which I carried out in the Usura district, Madrid. Period between 2016 and 2017. In the Infinite PRINTED MATTER series, I pursue an interest in print media as a raw material to record and document the story(s). Therefore, I work with a specific form of book circulation and circulation-transfer. I assume the circulation that results from the removal, release and dissolution of printed material (frequent possible causes could be, for example, the material has become insignificant from the point of view of a specific person, the survival of the material in relation to a human life). As a situated practice, related to a nomadic way of working and living, the material in the series varies from geographic reference points and has no linguistic restrictions. I process material in a collection-oriented way and assign file titles that tell more stories about their history and content. (2017) What comes After The Edge of Knowledge (2017) was exhibitesd as part of the spatial workingenvironment 'FREESEARCH: From IM_possibilities to in_possibilities', Bundeskunsthalle, 2020, amongst other exhibtions in Alicante/Spain, Galeria AURAL more info: https://showrooms.itgalleryapp.com/es_ES/1370790574623c67b04f3ac

WORK OF ART (personal definition) Text edition, 2021 A text-based edition unfolding a personal definition of art as something unstable, transmissible, and continuously open to alienate.. Printed in black on white paper, the work approaches language as a circulating conceptual form — something that can be carried, partially forgotten, re-read, and continued elsewhere. The DIN A0 format was deliberately chosen in relation to body scale, creating a direct encounter between the reader’s physical presence and the textual field. Its dimensions invite reading not as distant observation but as an embodied act: a movement between proximity, scale, and shifting understanding. Rather than a decorative print, the edition remains as an proposition that can circulate across spaces, contexts, and personal definitions - an thus be alive in a shared in-common. Details Artist Mirjam Kroker Title WORK OF ART (personal definition) Year 2021 Medium Black text print on white paper Format DIN A0, chosen in relation to body scale as a direct encounter for the reader Presentation Unframed Edition 50 Signature Signed and numbered Price 50 € + shipping Circulation Edition In parallel to the body-scale DIN A0 edition, WORK OF ART (personal definition) was also released in 2021 as a circulation edition published by Handrkit. Issued in an edition of 200 and individually stamped, this hand-scale format extends the work’s conceptual idea through movement, exchange, archiving, and personal transmission. While the DIN A0 version creates a direct body-scale encounter with the receiver, the card edition activates the work through portability and social circulation — carried in books, pockets, letters, collections, and other every day contexts. The planetary state of emergency caused by the worldwide spread of the coronavirus does not seem to leave any conceivable area untouched, it quite obviously af- and in_fects the perception of time,
proximity and distance. In the state of emergency of the pandemic, structures and modes of organization from the temporal, spacial, economical, political, public to the private and personal are relentlessly made visible.
The opacity, which too often brings inequalities and inconveniences to safety, is relentlessly dissolving. An immediacy becomes the present, in which time can be measured through proximity and distance.
How far is close enough for you to tell time?
The good thing is that the matter of time cannot be resolved here - just to be found out. Like an ecstatic embrace. Waiting takes on a new meaning and starting point for something that we may just be getting to know.

First edition of the unlimited and freely available online version
All rights reserved, especially for publishing the interview for non-commercial purposes.
Special edition of the interview, conducted by Kim Engelen in spring 2020, during the lockdown in Spain.
Questions No. 1-5 were asked by Engelen. No. 6 should be proposed by me. The idea behind No. 6 was to offer the person asked a 'wild card', considering that the questions of an interviewer often relate first to the interest or understanding of the person formulating the questions, which does not always correspond to the one who is asked. However, it will remain unanswered and I will pass it on to you as the reader.

THE PLANETARY ART WORLD
I want to be part of an art world that absurdly doesn't exist yet, in a world that has not been seen before, on a planet we already inhabit. To outline this desire I will nickname this world THE PLANETARY ART WORLD. In and round it we are all planetary citizens rather than mere objects of biopolitics.
